What to Expect:
A client may come with the expectation that they are going to get advice and/or directed. However, the role of a great coach is to pull the anwers out their clients by asking power questions. The client may feel ashamed or intimidated to give truthful answers to these question. But, the key to successful coaching is transparency, openness and honesty. Which, the coach will model for the client, inspiring such, by the sharing of their own "stories".
Another misconception about coaching is that one can be told their purpose, but it can only be revealed by God. The coach guides the client on a treasure hunt of discovery through a series of homework exercises, practices and discovery tools, which all lead to this revelatory moment with God when purpose is spoken and the clients life is forever changed. But, discovery of purpose is not an end in itself. The client must learn to live and carry out his purpose, which the coach assists with as well.
The Process:
The counseling/coaching/ministry process is only effective when the client is a WILLING PARTICIPANT. If the client is unwilling and resistant to the process then neither the counseling, coaching nor ministry process is effective.
Many people have pre-formed ideas about what a counselor/coach/minister would want them to talk about or how they "should be" during a session. Please be assured that you are not on stage and need not feel compelled to act in any particular way. Honesty about your thoughts and feelings, and trust in the Lord are the most important contributions you can make to the process. You can expect that your counselor/coach will provide you with attention and respect, along with the application of his or her expertise and dependency on the leading of the Holy Spirit, in effort to help you resolve the challenges that lead you to GRM.
The Goal:
The goal of a Christian Coach is to be the catalyst for getting a client to find the answers themselves. By asking challenging and thought provoking questions and using the Holy Spirit to reveal and direct, a Life Coach can unlock the potential in a client.
Coaches help clients move from a place of living stuck or stagnant to a life of forward momentum through the use of insightful, motivational and transformational tools, and through the guidance and power of the Holy Spirit.
The goal for the client is to obtain forward momentum toward their purpose and become focused on the actions they are willing to take to maximize their full potential in Christ. One’s life lived out of the fullness of the God and propelled forward by the power of God-ordained purpose is the desired outcome of coaching.
