Q: How does Christian counseling differ from other counseling?
Most Christian counselors receive Christ-centered education and training. Most use their Bible as their primary guide for counseling, and our Bible-based theories, modalities and techniques. Many allow for the leading of the Holy Spirit, rather than using an outlined strategy adhered to for every client.
Q: What church are you affiliated with?
GRM is not affiliated with a particular church or denomination. But we provide services to churches. GRM is trans-denominational, crossing lines and serving all Believers and Faith-based organizations that need and call upon our services.
Q: Are you a licensed agency?
No. GRM is a 501c3, non-profit ministry. We chose to remain free from governmental licensing requirements in order to remain authentically Christian and Bible-based. This allows for us to really solely on the leading of the Holy Spirit vs. being driven by the same rules, regulations and guidelines that secular agencies are required to adhere to.
Q: If you are a ministry, why do you charge for services?
As we are a non-profit organization, we have a set recommended donation per our services. Part of this donation goes to support the employees of GRM, who are professionals giving of their time, energy and expertise to provide services to the community, the same as for-profit businesses and organizations. Christian ministry or non-profit status does not negate this fact, nor omit us from IRS or government employee regulations.
Q: Do you have a system of governing and accountability?
Yes. Phillip and Darlena Fields are certified, as well as members, of the American Association of Christian Counselors, Colorado Springs, CO. We are also members of the Oral Roberts University Ministers Alliance, Tulsa, OK, and Regent University Alumni Association, Virginia Beach, VA. Get Real Ministries is governed by a supervised by the Advisory Board of Directors of Get Real Ministries, Inc.
Q: What is your view on the use of psychiatric medications?
We believe that science and medicine have an appropriate place in the emotional healing process. The use of medicine to treat psychological issues is strictly a matter between the client and his/her doctor who prescribed the medication. All use of these medicines should be followed according to the protocols recommended by the doctor. No member of the GRM ministry team is qualified to make recommendations of this matter.
Q: Is there someone in your office who can prescribe medications?
No. GRM is not licensed to prescribe, monitor or discontinue medications. However, we have professionals we may refer clients to, if necessary.
