Why We Exist
Although we are formerly trained and educated, what we learned about "getting real to get free", which is our main directive at Get Real Ministries, was gleaned from the school of hard knocks. The formation of GRM came as a result of our passion to share what we learned from our quest for real answers in the midst of real life, real pain, and the victorious freedom and healing that resulted. Thus, we have coined the foundation of Get Real Ministries, "reality-based theology". Here's a bit of our story to reveal how it all transpired...
Growing up in unbelieving, addiction-driven families, our early years were filled with alcohol abuse and violence. Although our start in life was threaded with pain and hardship, our families were good people who taught us to be hard-working, respectable citizens.
In spite of rocky beginnings, we both had radical, life-changing salvations in our teens that set us on a course for destiny. After meeting in grad school, our commonality as overcomers glued us together in an eternal bond. Once we got the "right" education, married the "right" person, and landed the "right" job at the the "right" church, we set out to fulfill our dreams and live happily ever after.
In spite of doing everything right, our hopes for "happy" crumbled from experiencing the devastating fallout of our church, also our workplace. This dynamic ministry crashed along with our dreams. The wake of the devestation left us battling with physical illness, emotional torment and a dying marriage. Phillip was plagued with a life-threatening disease and Darlena, tormented with severe depression.
BUT...long story short, in spite of the enemies plans, our God had another plan that lead to our miraculous deliverance and healing by the power of His Spirit.
Hence, we have a deep and passionate desire to play our role in delivering the captives within the church as a means of giving back what we've been given.
Therefore, we exist to:
- 1. Present the operation of the gifts of the Spirit in a Biblically-sound, non-threatening manner as a modern-day demonstration of the greater works of Christ.
- 2. Empower others to live by faith according to the covenants God made with man and through the death, life and resurrection of Christ.
- 3. Combine an understanding of the pain & tragedy of this fallen world with a fresh revelation of God’s love that saves, heals and delivers.
- 4. Coach Believers in reaching their God-given potential and to discover and live out their purpose.
- 5. Participate in ushering in the move of God for His people to experience another Jordan crossing and take back their land.
- 6. Assist God in dismantling and destoying the works of the enemy in the lives of His people and the 7 pillars of society.
- 7. Inspire others to live strong and couregous lives, in accordance with divine destiny, and revolutionize the world for Christ.
